I wasn't happy with anything I found retail, so I designed and built my
own bed. The main distinguishing features are that it is incredibly
sturdy and was built with a minimal number of tools (table saw, drill,
and router mostly). The web pages describing it is:

Thanks for sharing that. I was also looking for beds (bunk), but
found they were either too cheaply made for the affordable ones,
or too expensive for the sturdy ones. I finally found a set of
plans that enabled me to build my own bunk beds with a minimum of
tools. It was my first wood-working project, but they turned out
very sturdy, and the kids love it. Here's a link to the plans:
